A 5-year-old intact female Border collie that was last in estrus a year ago was presented for evaluation of vaginal bleeding and decreased activity and appetite. On physical examination, the abdomen was painful and tense and there frank blood from the vagina. Abnormalities on CBC and serum biochemistry were leukocytosis, monocytosis, and hyperglobulinemia.

Pyometra

Sonographic Differential Diagnosis

Pyometra. Immediate ovariohysterectomy is recommended

Image Interpretation

Uterus in this patient was dilated to 2 cm with fluid accumulation, echogenic debris continuing into both horns of the uterus.
