06-00122 Terry P Renal pseudocyst —NEEDS CDX—

Presented history of diabetes mellitus with recent episode of hypoglycemia. Radiographs revealed a very large fluid mass effect in the mid abdomen. Blood work revealed an elevated white blood cell count.

DX

Very large pseudo cyst of the right kidney. Pancreatitis.

Sonographic Differential Diagnosis

Very large pseudo cyst of the right kidney.
Pancreatitis.

Image Interpretation

The left limb of the pancreas was normal in appearance but this does not rule out pancreatitis in the cat. The left kidney measured 4.09cm and revealed changes consistent with chronic disease. The right kidney had a very large perirenal pseudocyst present. The cyst measured up to 10.5cm in diameter. Approximately 330mls of clear cystic fluid was drained from the cyst. The right kidney itself was small at 3.77cm and had irregular hyperechoic cortices and very poor corticomedullary definition.

No further outcome at this time.

Comments

I would suggest submitting a sample of the cystic fluid and submit a fpli test to help confirm pancreatitis. Periodic tapping of the renal pseudocyst will most likely be required in the future.
