Case Study

05_00193 Bentley S Regional pancreatitis

A 7-year-old NM Chihuahua with a history of pancreatitis and elevated ALP activity was presented for evaluation. Abnormalities on serum biochemistry were elevated ALP (546) and ALT (555) activity.

Sonographic Differential Diagnosis

Regional pancreatitis.

Image Interpretation

The right and left limbs of the pancreas were hypoechoic and slightly irregular. Portions of the pancreatic inflammation in the right are approaching the common bile duct. Therefore, the practitioner should be apprised of the potential for post hepatic obstruction in this case. The left limb of the pancreas was hypoechoic, irregular with pericapsular hyperechoic inflammatory pattern. This is consistent with multifocal, sectorial pancreatitis. Excellent views of both duodenal papillae without evidence of ductal dilatation at this time.
