Calcaneal tendon avulsion?

Sonopath Forum

Calcaneal tendon avulsion?

  • This is posted for a colleague. I scanned the dog for her.
  • 16 month old female labradoodle who came into the ER for acute right hind limb lameness.
  • Swelling is palpable over the distal calcaneal tendon, however, there is not notable laxity in the joint.
  • We are trying to determine if this is likely a surgical fix, specificially whether it appears avulsed. I don’t know how much you can tell with ultrasound….

Thoughts appreciated.

Hi Liz there is a lot of

Hi Liz there is a lot of fuzzy soft tissue inflammation and fluid pockets but there is still attachment. You can see to the left at 1 cm depth there is attachment to the bone but some frayed irregular soft titssue/tendon so a partial avulsion would be my suspicion… from these images I am thinking a 30% avulsion? I would tx stabilization and m,edical at this point and reevaluate in a week sonographically and the ill-defined aspects of this presentation should become more curvilinear and organized with healing.
