9 year old MN Golden/Lab mix with unexplained weight loss (over 20 pounds in past 8 months). Dog is clinically normal with good appetite, energy, no vomiting/diarrhea/inappetance. Normal CBC, chemistry panel, and electrolytes. Normal fecal. Normal chest rads. Normal U/A.
I did not see anything related to the GI tract to explain weight loss. I did see a mildly heterogeneous spleen and an unusual lesion in the bladder. I don’t think the bladder is related to the weight loss but am curious about what it means.

The lesion is visible in multiple planes and does not move. It does not sparkle with color Doppler. It appears somewhat linear and is sometimes assoicated with a reverberation-type artifact above it. I was thinking a strange bladder foreign body but if so, it is fixed in its location and there is no evidence of inflammation around the wall. Mostly just curious.
Also, I’ll include 1 still of the spleen. I did not aspirate it but can if it’s likely to be helpful. I sent the dog home on a trial course of panacur today. Other ideas for the weight loss?
Thanks!

Weird Im thinking its
Weird Im thinking its artifact because in the near field there is reverb in line with it. Ironically iots in the same place as a u stent. Bladder fb grass awns have been described but those are dirty lesions with inflammation while this is clean which makes me think artifact.
Im going to see if our teleradiologist Bob O’brien DACVR of U. of Illinois (http://sonopath.com/about/specialists/dr-robert-obrien-dvm-dacvr) can give us a more elaborate and technical explanation of the bladder presentation.
The spleen looks slightly heterogenous but normal for an older dog…. the parenchymal and capsular detail is uniform and no deviation in contour.

On the one image the intestines appear thickened – do you have a measurement for them? Consider the GI tract for unexplained weight loss, even with no vomiting and diarhea and especially with normal biochemistry.

Sorry for the late
Sorry for the late responses.
I measured the GI tract in various locations. None were >0.32 cm. All layering appeared normal. I am assuming either something will become apparent in the near future, or it will require biopsies to diagnose.
For now, we dewormed and they are coming in for monthly weigh-ins.
Thanks for the opinions.

I see these kinds of things
I see these kinds of things fairly often and generally ignore them as an artifact. Sometimes there is suspended crystaline material (see the 3rd clip on my post about doppler sparkling artifact in the bladder – http://sonopath.com/forum/sparkling-artifact-color-bladder-stones-doginteresting-case).
