I am looking to rent a Holter unit for a patient with episodes of syncope. I would like it read by a veterinary cardiologist. The list on VIN is not up-to-date. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Suzanne

Hi Suzzane,
The last Holter monitor I ordered for a dog was from Washington State University.
The only number I have is for Melissa at 509- 595-0490.
I hope this is helpful.

Dr. Mandi Kleman reads both
Dr. Mandi Kleman reads both the holter and event monitors. The current 2015 pricing is as follows: 24-hr holter monitor $400, event recorder $490. The turnaround time is 24 hours after we receive the monitor back. If you have any other questions that I can answer you can certainly post them here or email us directly info@sonopath. Hope this helps! 🙂 -Kelly

Thanks for the information.
Thanks for the information. I haven’t done a Holter monitor before in house. Can you explain what an event recorder vs. a Holter is? I am assuming the event recorder has a button that the owner pushes if a syncopal or other episode occurs? Since the syncopal episodes occur only infrequently, I would think a plain Holter would work. Also, I am guessing you would do one or the other, correct? $890 would be cost-prohibitive for most people around here (for one test).
The case is a 15 year old miniature Scnnauzer with syncopal episodes. He has a Grade 5/6 left systolic heart murmur but has never yet been in CHF. ECG shows probable atrial premature contractions. I have not yet done an echo but will likely post if I do.
Thanks!
Suzanne

If you think there is an
If you think there is an arrhythmia run a strip and have a cardiologist read it. With Atrial Fib the HR should be elevated.
The Schnauzer is prone to sick sinus syndrome.
I am posting an EKG strip with Atrial Fib and Sick Sinus Syndrome

Holter monitors are to test
Holter monitors are to test character and frequency of the arrythmia over a 24 hour period. So DCM screening sick sinus, a fib…essentially use it when you do a cardiac exam and note an arrythmia or use it as a screening procedure in predisposed breeds as arrythmagenic activity is often the first sign of DCM or Boxer CMY which can have normal or equivocal echos when screening but have arrythmias during a 24 hour period. Most the time we use Holters in general.
Event monitor you want to use when there is a specific event such as syncope or exercise intollerant and want to know if that is cardiogenic or not. The event occurs, the owner pushes the button, and the event monitor records the last miunute and the following 2 minutes of the ecg tracing. If its a sinus rythm then ithe episode is non cardiogenic but if an arrythmia is the cause it shows the problem to allow for specific treatment.
Thanks. Â I did do a brief
Thanks. I did do a brief in-house ECG and let a cardiologist look at it. He suggested a Holter to rule out sick sinus syndrome. There were several probable APC’s.
If I do the echo, I will post some images.
