Hello
Hopefully this is appropriate for this forum.
We have a 3 year old Jack Russel Terrier confiscated by SPCA. Thin emaciated.
Presented with regurge. Xrays showed markedly fluid dilated stomach. Performed liquid barium contrast study, abdominal US, Scoping and exploratory surgery. Intesintal and stomach biopsies indicate mild to moderate IBD. Started on pred but no resolution of the regurgitation.

Elected to perform a food/barium contrast study. Appears to have an esophageal stricture cranial to the heart base and a dilation cranial to the stricture. We are thinking persistent aortic arch but were looking for some confirmation.
Have the full series of rads at work but only these 2 at home.
Once again, I hope posting xrays is OK. Thanks. Brent.

Hi Brent!
As far as I can see, the stricture appears to be at the level of the heart base (there is some gas filling of the esophagus behind the contast mixed with food and air).
Persistent right aortic arch and stricure by the ligamentum arteriosum is possibile here. I usually do a CT-scan before the surgery so that I know what to expect.
Pls feel free to post the series of rads, maybe we can get some extra information from that!
Thanks for posting!
Peter

Hello and thanks for the reply.
I have attempted to post some additional rads. This is about 1/2 of what we have.
The initial is a scout rad, then barium at time 0 (feeding on xray table). Can see a think line of liquid barium in the esophagus. In retrospect it would have been nice to evaluate the esophagus in more detail but we were focusing on the stomach. Likewise when we scoped the dog with a 1cm gastroscope prior to surgery no obvious abnormalities were noted. Which I believe is to be expected.
Have pics from US performed but were essentially normal. They were performed after the initial barium test.
Then the rest of the initial barium test is posted minus a few radiographs. All barium left the stomach after 24 hours but was greatly delayed leaving the stomach.
The very last radiograph is of the barium/food swallow V/D that I did not initially have. It is taken at the same time as the laterals from the initial post. Several more were taken afterwards and I believe it was 10 mins to clear the barium and food out of the esophagus.
Thanks. Hopefull the pictures turn out.
