ARVC references for boxers

Hi everyone-

I am happy to provide some references for ARVC in boxers. Please find attached a Compendium article with clinical information and associated important references on the last page. I also attached an update on genetic information for boxers.

Dr. Kate Meurs genetic laboratory is now at NCSU. You may find additional information regarding genetics on her website:

In general, despite the very real risk for sudden death due to ventricular tachyarrhythmias, these patients do well long-term with lifelong anti-arrhythmic therapy/fish oil, recheck exams and 24hr holter monitors, careful monitoring from owners, and adjustment of anti-arrhythmic therapy as needed. It’s important to consider than any systemic disease/imbalance can cause a previously controlled boxer with ARVC to develop worsened arrhythmias. A relationship with a cardiologist is very helpful and beneficial for them! 🙂

Good luck with your patient – I would recommend waiting on anesthesia until the arrhythmias are controlled via anti-arrhythmic therapy (ideally based on 24hr holter monitor).

Take care,

Mandi Kleman
