Case Study

CT – Leftsided intramural ectopic ureter in a 2 year old FS Labrador Retriever with incontinence

This 2 year old FS Labrador Retriever dog has had a history of incontinence since adoption 4-6 months prior, when she was intact. R/O ectopic ureter

This 2 year old FS Labrador Retriever dog has had a history of incontinence since adoption 4-6 months prior, when she was intact. R/O ectopic ureter

Image Interpretation

CT  of the abdomen, plain and post contrast –

Both ureters present with normal diameter and expected opacity in the excretory pyelogram phase. An intramural bypass of the vesicourethral junction of the left ureter is seen. The left ureteral orifice appears to be located caudal to the vesicourethral junction within the pelvic urethra. Level with the vesicourethral junction a small focal accumulation of contrast media is noted within the pelvic urethra. The right ureteral orifice is slightly cranial to the vesicourethral junction. The position of the urinary bladder neck is cranial to the pubic rim. The total width of the urethra is 7 mm. The luminal width cannot be determined owing to the lack of dilation/contrast accumulation.

DX

The computed tomographic findings suggest a leftsided intramural ureteral ectopia with the orifice caudal to the vesicourethral junction

Outcome

At this point there is no evidence of ureteral dilation or upper urinary tract infection.
