Case Study
RAD – Cardiomegaly and cardiogenic pulmonary venous congestion in a 10 year old FS DLH cat
DX
cardiomegaly and cardiogenic pulmonary venous congestion with hyperperfusion of the lung.
Image Interpretation
lateral and VD thorax – The lung reveals perihilar opacification and a vascular pattern. Occasional peribronchial cuffing is noted. There is a pleural fissure line between the caudal and middle lung lobe. The cardiac silhouette appears to be elongated. A vascular pattern with congestion of the major lobar vessels, emphasizing the veins is noted.
Outcome
The mild bronchial pattern/peribronchial infiltrate is unlikely to be the underlying cause of the clinical signs at this point.
The pleural fissure line is either due to pleural thickening which frequently is an incidental finding or emerging pleural effusion. However pleural effusion is not obvious radiographically here.
A full cardiac echo is advised.
