Image Interpretation

mediolateral, craniocaudal and oblique views of the left foreleg: There was a soft tissue swelling in the region of the left elbow. The delineation of the fascial planes was lost in the distal triceps region and medial to the humeral condyles. The distribution of the swelling did not support an intraarticular lesion.
The left shoulder and elbow joint were within normal limits. The subchondral bones were continuous, even and smooth. Neither fracture lines nor osseous displacement were seen.

DX

The radiographs were negative for traumatic bone injury. The soft tissue swelling is an unspecific radiographic finding occurring with traumatic, inflammatory/infectious or neoplastic disorders in general

Comments

According to the history, traumatic soft tissue injury, such as muscle, tendon. or ligament rupture, has to be considered a potential underlying cause here. Thorough ultrasonographic evaluation of the soft tissue swellng and surroundings may be helpful to further define the disease.
