This 3 year old female hedgehog had the right eye enucleated 1.5 years ago. The eye tissue was suspicious at the time but it was not sent for histopath. The patient’s physical exam showed blood/foam from nose and respiratory distress.

CT of the head: The patient was presented with a status after left-sided enucleation, at least according to the dicom data, the left globe is missing. But a left-right flip may have happened due to erroneous machine/protocol set up and patient positioning.There was a large soft tissue attenuating space-occupying lesion on the dorsum of the nose that invaded both nasal cavities. The nasal bones and nasal conchae presented extensive osteolysis emphasizing the mid and caudal third of the nasal cavities. The nasal cavities were nearly entirely filled with soft tissue attenuating material of similar quality as the space occupying lesion. A connection of the lesion to the right or left orbital was not seen, except for mild generalized signs of peridontal disease. The teeth were within normal limits. The lymph nodes of the head were not included in the study.
Although mycotic and parasitic infections cannot be ruled out entirely, the CT findings do not meet the typical criteria of infectious destructive rhinitis. The findings are likely unrelated to the former ophthalmologic disorder and are not related to dental disease.
