Case Study

Recurrent transitional cell carcinoma of bladder in a 10 year old FS American Eskimo dog, treated with UGELAB

A 10-year-old SF American Eskimo with a history of bladder transitional cell carcinoma that had been stented, chronic renal insufficiency, hydronephrosis, and hydroureter, was presented for evaluation. CBC showed anemia (14%).

A 10-year-old SF American Eskimo with a history of bladder transitional cell carcinoma that had been stented, chronic renal insufficiency, hydronephrosis, and hydroureter, was presented for evaluation. CBC showed anemia (14%).

DX

Progressive return of transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder

Sonographic Differential Diagnosis

Chronic renal failure due to hydronephrosis. Progressive return of transitional cell carcinoma with calcification and urethral involvement with obstruction.

Image Interpretation

The kidneys were examined. There was bilateral hydroureter with hydronephrosis. The ureter stents both appeared to be in proper location (no images) with very little cortical tissue in both kidneys. There were no abnormalities noted in the mesenteric, iliac, and sublumbar lymph nodes. There was a urinary bladder mass effect that extends from the bladder trigone forward. There was marked calcification and calcification within the urethral wall as well.

Outcome

None
