A 3-year-old spayed female DSH cat was presented for evaluation of a recurrent urinary tract infection. On the last urinalysis, normal specific gravity (1.030), proteinuria, and a negative culture were evident.
A 3-year-old spayed female DSH cat was presented for evaluation of a recurrent urinary tract infection. On the last urinalysis, normal specific gravity (1.030), proteinuria, and a negative culture were evident.
Bladder calculi with urethral calculus and thickened bladder wall. The thickening may be due to calculi irritation or underlying mural disease such as interstitial cystitis. Cystotomy and retrograde flushing of the urethra in order to liberate the urethral stone, as well as bladder wall biopsy, would be recommended. Urine culture and sensitivity is also recommended.
The urinary bladder presented multiple, small calculi with a urethral calculus that measured 1.0 cm. The wall was uniformly thickened. The kidneys appeared normal.

Bladder pathology – interstitial cystitis, granulomatous cystitis, polyploid cystitis, uroliths. Renal pathology – pyelonephritis, renolith.
Urine culture revealed Enterococcus. Biopsy of the urinary bladder revealed hemorrhagic chronic cystitis.
