Sphynx heart disease

Sonopath Forum

Sphynx heart disease

  • 6 year old MN Sphynx heart screen, history of chronic ongoing upper and lower respiratory disease
  • Heart normal last year
  • I feel there is right sided dilation with tricuspid regurgitation, very difficult with movement/respiration to get velocity of jet
  • How do you classify pulmonary hypertension in cats?
  • Do you think this is cause of cardiac changes here and how would you treat?
  • Also does anyone have experience of using co-enzyme Q10 in heart disease?

PHT in cats is same in dogs

PHT in cats is same in dogs starting at TR vel of > 3 m/sec.. at least thats the latest info I have. I dont think your are lined up on the TR jet well and are underestimating the jet. Zoom in on the CF jet and ensure you have a lower frequency and lined up < 15 degrees with the regurg flow. Also double check the HV and CVC for congestion that would indicate impending right chf. If this heart was normal last year I would think some new unsult may be in play such as myocarditis or similar insult as the wall thickenesses are normal but volume overload present mainly on the right side.

We will have SDEP ECHO unleashed  (cardiac version of SDEP abdomen unleashed) live for download in the next week or so watch for that as I/Peter go through all these dos and donts in that series.

Yes he was too wriggly and I could not get it well.

Would you treat with pimobendan +/- furosemide? The CVC was not collapsing  with respiration.

Maybe low dose lasix trial

Maybe low dose lasix trial but I would work on primary respiratory disease first.
