Heart mass

Sonopath Forum

  • 13 year old MN Spaniel with weight loss
  • Abdo scan showed thrombus in splenic vein
  • There is a right sided heart mass (i think) and pericardial effusion, do you think this is a haemangiosarcoma?
  • There is a large mitral valve lesion also, is this another mass or thrombus?
  • I am confused by multiple lesions and large thrombus in portal/splenic vein

Ouch!!! This is really a poor dog!

Unfortunately, thrombus and mass are sometimes difficult to distinguish. I would rather think of a thrombus here, but honestly, I’m unsure. Since it affects both AV valves, I would look for protein losing disease and also for bacteriemia (blood culture).

Thanks for posting!
