Post partum uterus

Sonopath Forum

  • 5 year old Lab delivered litter of pups followed by two dead pups after 24 hours
  • Had uterine intertia and was medically managed to deliver pups
  • Also had saline instilled into uterus 24 hours previously as was believed to have retained placenta
  • Was still restless and nesting after 72 hours
  • Normothermic and eating and feeding pups
  • Bloods unremarkable
  • I think this is a normal post partum uterus, would you agree?

Uterus and contents looks

Uterus and contents looks typical for post-partum. However would be concerned about the free fluid, which may be pregnancy related but uterine perforation should be considered. Monitior clinical signs and temperature and repeat 24-36 hours and if tap fluid if increasing.
