Hello
This is Binky a 16 year old cat with high blood pressure.
We performed an US to evaluate the adrenals. They appeared normal but the Rt kidney was odd. The cranial pole seemed to just dissappear with no distinct boundries; High resolution probe showed a cortical cyst and that the cranial pole seems to melt into an ill defined cyst.
Wondering if this is consistent with chronic renal failure or if it is something else. Thanks. Brent

Did the left kidney have a similar appearance, if not would think of prior obstruction, infection, dysplasia. If both had a similar appearance then CKD. Any changes on urinalysis and blood work?

Could be a cortical renal infarct as well which can be incidental esp if labs normal

Thanks.
SG was isosthenuric but creative was in the normal range.
Urea was high normal. Our vet thought stage 1 iris.
Thanks for the input. Brent

My original thought was also a renal infarct.
Yes renal infarcts wiht
Yes renal infarcts wiht multifocal cortical collapse and pelvic stone. This is typical for chronic obstructive stone movers…when there is an inflammatory pattern on the infarct its recent or active. I call these comet tail infarcts as the stone moves toward the pelvis and drags the infarct behind it.
Here’s a good comet tail
Here’s a good comet tail infarct case when searching “renal infarct” in th eclinical search
