Left Shoulder Swelling with Bruising at the Axilla?

  • 7-year-old MN Lab/terrier mix presented with a historical history of Erlichia.
  • PE: + fluid wave, U/S showed free fluid but no definitive masses.
  • Bloods fairly normal, some low platelets.

Owner happened to mention a newly found left shoulder swelling. It did not appear to have bony involvement but was sent out for radiographic consultation.

Images I took were directly on the area of swelling and from the axilla pointing up into the area of swelling.

  • Does this appear as normal anatomy? Are these lymph nodes or other? I have never scanned into the axilla before.
  • Thanks in advance! 🙂

These are LN that are enlarged but not obviously infiltrated… more of a reactive pattern.and some minor soft tissue inflammation. Given the breed and age I would hunt for other LN in the abdomen and cranial mediastinum and ensure this isnt part of a bigger picture. Maybe doxy/clinda combination empirically for tick borne disease.
