Barbie is a 2yo Stafford terrier that is 32 days into her pregnancy. Ultrasound revealed a 7cm irregular heterogeneous mass along with at least 6 live puppies. Should I recommend a splenectomy ? I include a second ultrasound 6 days later with some changes to the mass.(38 days of gestation) Should I continue to monitor?

Splenic mass that is changing in 6 days needs sx thats for sure especially since it will tax the mother trying to deliver pups…be sure 3 view chest rads and echo to be sure there arent surprises in the right atrium and pericardium if this is a very young HSA…. As far as managing the puppy gestation I’m not an anethesiologist but Im guessing torb propofol would be safest.

After to talking to two oncologists and an internist the owner decided to monitor the pregnancy to term and hopefully have a natural birth then remove the spleen at a later date. So far the mass is not changing and the puppies are all still viable. We have one more week.
