Yes for certain applications, no for elbow dysplasia and IVD disease is the short answer.
We have conducted and published studies on the accuracy of US in medial coronoid pathology which is somewhat disappointing. Yet we use US in a lot of other elbow pathologies such as collateral ligament injury, arthritis or neoplasia.
Some other – more important – indications for US in small animals with front limb lameness are shoulder (biceps and other) and brachial plexus pathologies.
For the spine main indications are intra operative US in IVD disease (not for primary diagnosis), sublbar abscesses and interventional procedures such as guided puncture of the disc in discospondylitis as well as guided puncture/injection of subarachnoid space and nerve roots.
