RADS – Normal Age-Related Cardiac and Axial Skeleton Changes with Redundant Aortic Arch in a 13 year old FS DSH cat

Presenting clinical signs: History of nasal congestion since May. Antibiotics have not helped. Prednisone does seem to provide some relief.

Image Interpretation

right lateral, left lateral and VD thorax and abdomen, right lateral neck – The patient was relatively thin.
Osseous structures: Mild degenerative changes were associated with the axial skeleton.
Extrathoracic soft tissues: There was mild aerophagia.
Intrathoracic structures: The course of the trachea was normal. There was no abnormal mediastinal widening. The cardiac silhouette presented mild cranial rotation and was within normal limits regarding size and shape. There was a prominent redundant aortic arch. The major and pulmonary vessels were within normal limits.
The lung parenchyma presented a mild bronchointerstitial pattern without peribronchial cuffing.

DX

The radiographs were within normal limits for an aged cat. Age related changes of the cardiac silhouette and axial skeleton were noted as well as a redundant aortic arch.
